Description

To preserve the environment, oil producers are supplying a new generation of eco-friendly hydraulic and lubrication oils to OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and system operators. Unlike previous formulations that used group I base oils, these new products have a higher risk of generating electrostatic discharge.

In the past, conventional oils often contained ash and zinc dithiophosphate (ZDDP) as anti-wear and anti-corrosion additives. However, these additives no longer comply with current international environmental standards and have been classified as harmful.

Without the presence of metal, these newer oils have low conductivity (less than 500 pS/m). When the oil flows through the filter element in a hydraulic system that is not antistatic, electrostatic discharge (ESD) can occur. This may lead to sparking within the system, accelerating oil degradation and causing potential damage to components.

To address this issue, advanced antistatic filtration technology is now available. This innovative solution not only reduces electrostatic discharge but also ensures excellent filtration performance in highly demanding systems.
